Late to the Table

written by emma moore and emily faye

Sorry I couldn't make your family dinner

Can't break bread at six when you're the breadwinner

Sorry you're mad that I turned thirty one

With no sign of a husband, daughter or son

But I'm not late to the table
And I'm not behind
For some kind of life
You've decided is right
I make my choices

And I'm more than able

So stop calling me
Late to the table

No I'm not broken and I don't feel lonely

So keep your concern, I know its' only

Because you can't see yourself living this way
And you think you're saving me from a mistake

But I'm not late to the table
And I'm not behind
For some kind of life
You've decided is right
I make my choices

And I'm more than able

So stop calling me
Late to the table

When did a life looking different to yours
Become the wrong choice and a way to keep score

No I'm not late to the table
And I'm not behind
For some kind of life
You've decided is right
I make my choices

And I'm more than able

So stop calling me
Late to the table

Hopefully, a firm favourite by now. A song I hope you've been waiting for.

Tomorrow is all about the feels.

Last Nights Q&A

I'm not late to the table

For dinner or life
For being called momma,

becoming a wife.
I'll make my way
In a time that I'm able

So stop calling me

Late to the table

-

I’ve seen all the girls that I went to school with

Give up on their dreams,
settle down but the truth is

I never saw myself playing that part

But sometimes I wonder, if it’s time to start

-

They all look happy on the surface at least

But I’m living what
They see when they sleep

-

And I might show up

Or I just might not

But one thing’s for sure

I’m not getting lost

-

I’m happy for all the invitations

To your family dinners and your celebrations

But I won’t be needing your commiserations

For turning up solo

To your church occasions

I was going round in circles with this for so long, so when the opportunity came to write with Emily I knew we had to talk about it. I loved the title, and the message behind the song but it was getting bigger and bigger, with so much to talk about. After many conversations, and saying goodbye to lyrics we loved, we pulled it back to the version above.
I think at one point we tried to tell too many points of view, but those conversations lead us back to one story.

Behind  The SceneS

All the photography for the EP was done by Rosie Hardy, who I've been working with since the 'Good Girl' days. She has shot the covers of every single I've done since then, and working with her is a dream.

I have never been more comfortable in front of a camera than shooting with Rosie, and her talent shines so damn bright.

See you tomorrow for day six!
